The SAIEE Africa Research Journal will publish a Feature Section with selected papers from the 33rd Southern African Universities Power Engineering Conference (SAUPEC 2025) which was held at River Meadow Manor by Tshwane University of Technology on the 29th and 30th of January 2025 (https://www.saiee.org.za/displaycustomlink.aspx?name=SAUPEC2025). The special issue offers authors an opportunity to expand their accepted and presented SAUPEC 2025 papers into SAIEE Africa Research Journal papers, providing additional technical results and/or further discussions and insights, beyond the 6-page conference papers. All invited and contributed papers presented at SAUPEC 2025 conference are invited to submit the extended version of their work up to 8 to 10 pages to this special issue (at least 50 % of content must be new and additional to provision at the conference). Paper submission is not limited to extended papers from SAUPEC 2025. The deadline for submission of manuscripts is July 30, 2025; response to authors tentatively scheduled end of January 2026. Camera ready paper submission deadline is tentatively scheduled for March 2026 publication is tentatively scheduled for September 2026. Submissions should be made online at https://journals.uj.ac.za/index.php/SAIEE/login, with papers formatted compliant to SAIEE Africa Research Journal.

Please note that the journal is indexed by several international databases, DOAJ, Scopus, SciELO, and others; this means that there are several inter-related compliance requirements. Guest editors will only progress to review stage those papers that meet these expectations.

Scope:

Research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) has recently garnered significant attention from the global research community, underscoring the growing importance and long-term impact of these technologies. AI is poised to remain a transformative force for the foreseeable future.

The combined fields of Power Engineering and Energy Systems play a critical role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, sustainable development, and energy security. In this context, platforms like SAUPEC continue to foster innovation and knowledge-sharing within these domains.
