Since the beginning of the decade the world has shrunk through the growth of global mass communication and Information highways. Greater access to Information makes the consumer more susceptible to propaganda, disguised by Information providers as objective information. A prime example of this manipulation occurred during the Gulf War of 1991 . Through effective use of propaganda techniques the Bush administration created a situation torclng the western world to Involve itself in a domestic dispute In the Middle East Prime benenclarles were the Bush Administration, and George Bush himself, who at the time was seeking re-election as president of the United States. Analysis of media coverage of the war, particularly the coverage on CNN, will show how the mass media assisted the administration In creating and sustaining the climate for war.  It seems that distinct differences of opinion regarding the desirability of the portrayal of eroticism in films and the application of censorship are evident in the South African society. This empirical study has attempted to identify amongst young adults the role that their ethical orientation plays in evaluating film eroticism and censorship. For this purpose four ethical orientations (the Individualistically, Transcendentalistically, Relativistically and Altruistically orientated groups) were identified. Research was conducted at four universities in which 418 respondents participated. The most important findings were that respondents supporting the Transcendentalistic ethical orienta tion differed significantly from the other in displaying a more negative attitude towards film eroticism and a more positive view of censorship. It was concluded that researchers should thoroughly take cognisance of the role that respondents' ethical red by the Publisher (dated 2010).  

The use of negotiation in hostage situations is not a new concept. As a matter of fact, it has been used worldwide since the 1970's. However, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has been training its members in the use of hostage negotiations only since 1990. Seen in the light of greater community involvement by the SAPS it is expected that hostage negotiation as a nonviolent means of solving such situations will become more common as time goes by. In this article hostage negotiation is viewed as a form of persuasive communication. It focuses on the existence of and reasons for resistance to the persuasive content of hostage negotiations. Strategies that the hostage negotiator can use to overcome existing resistance are discussed, as well as strategies and techniques to initiate change in the hostage taker's behaviour, that is, to persuade the latter to let the hostage go unharmed the ultimate goal of such negotiations.
