Call for Papers SPECIAL ISSUE: “Towards a sustainable future: Environmental sustainability through interdisciplinary perspectives”
Dear contributors,
You are invited to submit abstracts to a special issue titled “Towards a sustainable future: Environmental sustainability through interdisciplinary perspectives”
Environmental sustainability has emerged as a critical global concern, particularly since its formal integration into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. While significant emphasis has been placed on the economic and business dimensions of sustainability, these discussions frequently overlook the broader interdisciplinary perspectives that critically shape, challenge, and redefine sustainable practices. This special issue transcends disciplinary boundaries by fostering an inclusive and nuanced understanding of sustainability that accounts for cultural, social, ethical, and historical dimensions.
Human and organisational activities such as industrialization, the overexploitation of natural resources, and the increased reliance on non-renewable energy sources continue to pose significant environmental challenges. Achieving sustainability, however, necessitates a critical re-evaluation of dominant narratives, the inclusion of marginalized perspectives, and the exploration of innovative pathways that reflect the complexities of our interconnected ecological and social systems.
We invite contributions that critically examine the ethical and equity dimensions of carbon accounting, highlighting how these considerations shape sustainability metrics; delve into the socio-political implications of biodiversity offsets and carbon reduction strategies trade-offs; analyse how cultural and historical contexts inform sustainability understandings; explore how community-driven initiatives could provide alternative frameworks for global sustainability objectives; interrogate privileged environmental practices and offer innovative perspectives on environmental management; explore the socio-political dimensions of circular economies, with a focus on equity and inclusion; and, examine the role of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence in sustainability initiatives.
