SAQAN Announces the Launch of the SAQAN Journal for Quality Assurance in Higher Education
Posted on 2024-10-04The Southern African Quality Assurance Network (SAQAN) is excited to announce the launch of the SAQAN Journal for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. This journal aims to establish Quality Assurance as both an academic and professional practice in Southern Africa, the African continent, and globally. It will serve as a platform for quality assurance practitioners and researchers to share good practices, exchange ideas, and foster collaboration on quality assurance in higher education. The Journal is launched and managed in grateful collaboration with the University of Johannesburg and the Council on Higher Education in South Africa.
SAQAN is a non-profit, member-based organization dedicated to promoting quality in higher education throughout Southern Africa. Through capacity building, research, and the harmonization of quality assurance systems, SAQAN facilitates international recognition of higher education qualifications to enhance staff and student mobility. SAQAN’s member countries include Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, and Malawi.
The inaugural issue of the SAQAN Journal will align with the theme of the 6th SAQAN Conference, to be held in Zambia in September 2024. The theme, "Strengthening and Harmonising Quality Assurance in the SADC Region and Beyond Through Sharing Experiences and Good Practices," reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen higher education systems through the exchange of knowledge, research, and innovative practices.
The Journal will accept a wide range of contributions, including full-length conceptual and empirical research papers, professional notes, and reviews. Submissions are now open, and contributors are encouraged to visit the SAQAN Journal’s website for detailed submission guidelines (The SAQAN Journal for Quality Assurance in Higher Education). All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review to ensure quality and originality. Writing support will be provided to quality assurance practitioners who may not as yet be seasoned authors.
SAQAN invites stakeholders in higher education quality assurance, both in Southern Africa and internationally, to contribute to this landmark publication. The Journal represents a significant step toward creating a unified framework for quality assurance, strengthening higher education, and supporting Africa's goal of harmonized qualifications and mobility of students and professionals.
